Process guidance with smart glasses in warehouses
Following successful testing and planning phases, German cosmetics producer Dr. Babor GmbH & Co. KG has permanently converted its intralogistics processes to pick by vision. In the 12,000 square meter high-bay warehouse in Aachen, pickers now carry out their work using smart glasses instead of hand-helds. With its pick-by-vision solution, Picavi GmbH, based in Herzogenrath, has enabled strict guidance throughout the picking process, as well as route optimization.
The entire process control is now performed with smart glasses - systematically step by step. Each step is confirmed by the scanner integrated in the glasses: storage location number and item are checked and picking errors are eliminated. Once the corresponding item has been picked, a transport label with SSCC barcode is automatically printed in the driver's cab and the smart glasses show the staging area location. Once the order is completed, the display will show the next one.
"Due to its simplicity, acceptance of the new system among colleagues is extremely high. With smart glasses, the hands are freed up during the entire work process. In addition to route optimization, this is certainly a key advantage", explains Babor CEO Horst Robertz. Even during the test phase, a reliable measurement of 18 percent time-saving was achieved. The initial first few weeks of live operation indicate even better figures.
