LSM is a traction system for sorting machines based on SKA DDL direct drive synchronous linear motor. Magnetic tracks are applied under each carrier (moving parts) and they are powered by coils distributed along the machine loop.
The sorter traction system allows many advantages: maintenance free, faster system servicing, high energy saving, drastic noise reduction, accurate velocity control for high precision parcel/luggage loading and unloading, simplified start-up, quick stop, no friction, sorter encoder integrate on the LSM equipment (accuracy 8mm). LSM system uses inverse linear motor principle, with coils embedded in the track and a magnetic plate embedded in each carrier. The plate on the carrier is then magnetically coupled to the coils. The carrier moves when the electromagnetic coils are activated in a controlled sequence, passing control of the carrier's magnetic plate from one coil to the next without losing position or control of motion.
LSM traction system can be used as carousel carries or as independent motion carriers. In the carousel the general function of the LSM is to transport product carriers along the tracks. The carriers have magnets at the bottom (alternating north and south poles). The movements of the carriers are established by controlling the coils, which are positioned below the carriers. The coils can be controlled independently of each other. This implies that multiple carriers can be moved along the same track, as long as the required coil currents for movements of different carriers are not conflicting.
