Without a doubt, one of the most promising topics when it comes to innovation in modern logistics is speech-controlled picking technology. Known as "Pick by Voice", this technology is perfectly capable of replacing conventional paper-based picking, and by some measures is estimated to be up to 30 percent more efficient than traditional methods using printed lists. At the same time, it also significantly reduces error rates. One leading pioneer in this field is topsystem Systemhaus GmbH, based in Würselen in Germany's Rhine region. The company behind the well-established LYDIA Voice Suite is at CeMAT this year with two new versions of the speech-controlled picking system - the LYDIA Business basic package and the LYDIA Enterprise premium solution. With both versions offering easy customization options to suit the individual requirements of different countries and industries, they form a key part of topsystem’s international growth strategy.

The LYDIA Business basic package comes with the company's own LYDIA voice recognition software and is specifically designed for iOS and Android operating systems. Using a headset and a smartphone, LYDIA guides employees through the warehouse to the item that is required via voice-based dialog. The LYDIA Enterprise premium version includes LYDIA software, the Voxter mobile voice computer and the VoiceWear picking vest, which is used instead of a conventional headset and helps optimize hands-free operation during picking.
