For five days the exhibition halls in Hannover were firmly in the hands of the intralogisctics industry. At CeMAT exhibitors from around the world showed new concepts and innovations for warehouses and transportation. The main topic of the trade fair this year was „sustainability in intralogistics“.

Forklift trucks, conveyor belts and sorting systems as far as the eye can see. This is intralogistics, a broad discipline spanning everything that facilitates goods movements within companies – basically everything upstream of road, sea and air transport. It’s an industry that is now integral to our modern economy. Because at some point in their lifecycle, all goods we use in our everyday lives pass through some form of storage or warehousing. And CeMAT is where this industry unveils its latest innovations.

Germany leads the way in environmental protection, and the city of Hamburg – winner of this year’s European Green Capital Award – is a perfect example.

Perhaps one of the most eloquent expressions of Hamburg’s green ethos is its port, the third-largest of its kind in Europe.

The port’s internal logistics operations – or intralogistics – play a big role, with a strong green focus that spares countless tons of carbon-dioxide emissions annually.
